At Ysgol Penrhyn Dewi, we are committed to providing an inclusive learning environment where every child and young person is supported to achieve their full potential. We recognise that learners have different strengths, needs and aspirations, and we work collaboratively with pupils, families and external agencies to ensure appropriate support is in place.
Our approach is guided by the Welsh Additional Learning Needs (ALN) framework, which promotes early identification of needs, person-centred planning and inclusive education. Where additional support is required, we work closely with learners and their families to develop tailored provision that removes barriers to learning and helps every pupil participate fully, benefit from, and enjoy their education.
🌟 Supporting every learner to belong, participate and succeed.
The Additional Learning Needs (ALN) Code for Wales provides the framework for identifying and supporting children and young people with additional learning needs. It sets out the rights of learners, the responsibilities of schools and local authorities, and the arrangements for ensuring that every learner receives the support they need to achieve their full potential.
The Code promotes a person-centred approach, placing learners and their families at the heart of decision-making. It also encourages effective collaboration between schools, families, local authorities and other agencies to provide coordinated support.

The Welsh Government provides financial support to help eligible families with the costs associated with school. Through the Pupil Development Grant (PDG) Access Grant, families who qualify for free school meals may be able to receive funding towards essential items such as school uniform, sports kit, equipment and other school-related expenses. The grant is available for learners from Reception to Year 11 and aims to reduce financial barriers to education and ensure all children can fully participate in school life.
The scheme forms part of the Welsh Government’s commitment to supporting families, tackling the impact of poverty on educational attainment, and ensuring every learner has access to the resources they need to succeed.
